Conference synopsis

The maritime industry stands at a decisive turning point. The International Maritime Organization has revised its greenhouse gas emission strategy to target net-zero emissions from international shipping by or around 2050. That target is reshaping every aspect of how ships are designed, built, powered and operated. At the same time, rapid advances in digitalisation, artificial intelligence and autonomous systems are transforming vessels into intelligent, connected assets. Meeting these twin challenges demands an unprecedented level of collaboration between researchers, engineers, classification societies, regulators and industry.

The International Conference on Marine Engineering and Technology 2027 (MET 2027) will bring together the global marine engineering community to address these challenges. Jointly organised by the University of Strathclyde and leading partner institutions and societies from Korea and China, the conference will provide an international forum for the exchange of the latest research findings, technological innovations and regulatory insights across the full spectrum of marine engineering. The scope runs from green ship technologies, alternative fuels and future propulsion, through advanced onboard systems, to smart, autonomous and digitally enabled shipping.

Over the course of the conference, delegates will engage with keynote addresses from internationally recognised experts, peer-reviewed technical sessions and panel discussions. MET 2027 aims not only to disseminate cutting-edge research and technology but also to build lasting bridges between academia and industry, and between the maritime research communities of Europe and Asia, in pursuit of safer, cleaner and smarter marine engineering and technologies.
