MET 2027 is held in Glasgow, home of the University of Strathclyde and of one of the longest shipbuilding traditions in Europe. The exact venue is being selected.

The city

Why Glasgow

Glasgow grew up around the River Clyde, and the city and its river gave the phrase "Clyde-built" to the shipbuilding world. That heritage now sits alongside a research base working on the next generation of ships, and the University of Strathclyde's Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering sits at the centre of it.

The city centre is compact and walkable, with the conference district, hotels, restaurants and the main rail stations all within a short distance of one another.

Getting here

  • By air. Glasgow International Airport serves the city directly. Edinburgh Airport is around an hour away by road or rail and offers a wider long-haul network.
  • By rail. Glasgow Central and Glasgow Queen Street stations connect the city to the rest of the United Kingdom.
  • Local transport. The city centre is served by subway, bus and taxi, and most of it is walkable.

Planning your trip

Visas

Check whether you need a visa to enter the United Kingdom on GOV.UK, and apply in good time. The secretariat issues invitation letters to registered delegates from March 2027.

When to arrive

The conference runs on 19 and 20 August 2027. Plan to arrive the evening before the opening session, and allow time for travel from the airport into the city.

Weather

Late summer in Glasgow is mild. Bring a light waterproof layer whatever the forecast says.
